We are in the Centre of Florence
Hotel Jane is less than one kilometre away from the historical heart of Florence, which can be reached in a quarter of an hour by foot, 10 minutes by bus, and 5 minutes by car (for those arriving in Florence by car, Hotel Jane offers a private garage). Hotel Jane is located in an authentic Florentine area, hidden from the direct view of tourist comings and goings. It is one of the easiest 3 star hotels in Florence to reach from the A1 motorway (Firenze Sud exit), and is one of the most convenient hotels for the Stadio Comunale ("Municipal Stadium", just 5 minutes away by car), and for the sporting facilities zone of Campo di Marte (“Field of Mars”).
Just a 3 minute walk from Hotel Jane, a most pleasurable walk can be enjoyed along the lively Via Gioberti with its "cento vetrine" ("one hundred shopwindows"), where the sparkling lights of shops and boutiques are sure to inspire shopping enthusiasts. Nearby the Hotel, there is no shortage of typical restaurants, inns and wine bars, where pleasant evenings can be spent whilst savouring Florentine specialty dishes and renowned Tuscan wines.
Hotel Jane is also conveniently positioned for access to the Oltrarno ("other side of the Arno"). In just 10 minutes it's possible to reach the hill of Piazzale Michelangelo, where a spectacular view of the whole of Florence can be enjoyed, and where the Church of San Miniato al Monte (“St Minias on the Mountain”) is located, a magnificent example of Roman-Florentine architecture, with a characteristic facade in bi-chrome marble.
In 10 minutes it is also possible to reach Piazza del Duomo, the historical and artistic centre of Florence (via bus no. 14, which stops just a stone's throw away from Hotel Jane). From here, visitors will be spoilt for choice by the endless wonders the city has to offer: Santa Maria del Fiore ("Saint Mary of the Flower", Florence Cathedral), wrapped in coloured marbles such as the Campanile di Giotto ("Giotto's Bell Tower") and the Battistero ("Baptistery"); Piazza della Signoria, the political centre of the city since the Middle Ages; Gallerie degli Uffizi ("Uffizi Gallery"), one of the most beautiful and important art museums in the world; Ponte Vecchio, with its rows of artisan workshops etc.
Not to be missed is the Basilica of Santa Croce ("Basilica of the Holy Cross"), less than a 10 minute walk from Hotel Jane. This spectacular Franciscan church is famous not only for its immeasurable architectural and artistic value (the greatest painters and architects of the Middle Ages and Renaissance worked on the structure), but also because it houses the tombs of great Italians, including Niccolò Machiavelli, Galileo Galilei and Michelangelo (remembered in the "Sepolcri - ‘Sepulchres’ by Ugo Foscolo")
